I got a freebie last weekend but I have no idea what type of coral it is nor what genus it belongs to.

It seems to tolerate low-medium light.
    It's soft.
When the polyps are retracted, it looks like a purple ball.
When upside down, It is hollow and fleshy inside.
    I know,I know, I have a bad bubble algae problem:-/

They do somewhat look like star polyps. But I'm still not sure:-/

I found a big chunk of that in my sump. Old star polys that I dug out from under the sand bed by mistake. I thought it was a nice looking rock. After about a week, it plushed up and looks exactly the same as yours. Used to be green star polyps....now they are pink star polyps. But yea, they'll color up in a month or 2.

    I'm with mattheuw1 on this.

Those sure appear to be a form of star polyps, but what color they end up being is anyone's guess.

Thanks for the ID guys. Free star polyps. That's cool but it does also kinda resemble the encrusting gorgonian like ktz216 said.
