There's this strange furry/fuzzy thing growing on one of my live rocks. I have no idea if it's some kind or algae or creature. It looks black, but could be a really dark purple or something. It's about the size of a dime.

Sorry the picture is blurry, but it's the best I can do with my camera. :-[ It's the dark thing in the middle of the picture, where the three rocks seem to come together.

    I don't think it's a sponge, because I have a bunch of those....

But thanks for the guess!! I know the picture is horrible.

Is it smooth? It is really hard to say without a better picture.

 That was good :). In all honesty we would need a clearer picture, but just guessing it could be a ball sponge, other than that I have no clue.

I can't tell anything by the picture. However, the description leads me to believe it's one of the red hair algae species.

My first thought was hair algae...so I'm hoping this isn't true!! I don't want that to get happy in my tank. I'll do some web research on red hair algae and see.

    Thanks for the help!
