strange sea hare behavior

    i have a sea hare i just got about 4 days ago. its one of the green ones. it buried itself in my sand bed for 2 days . ive had more sea hares then id like to count but ive never seen this behavior . now it is in the back of the tank in the corner near the surface of the water and it looks a bit bloated. im at a loss here mabe laying eggs??? and there is plenty of gha for it

    hmm ive never seen/ heard of that and ive had a few sea hares sorry

    i put him in about a half hr before lights out and didnt see him the for a day then i saw him burying himself and this morning he was still buried( part of him was touching the glass under the sand). and just before i saw him where he is now. cant tell if hes dead or not :/

    haha mine sat in a rock for 2 days before i realized he was dead

    I've seen this many times....and then a couple days later it just goes to eating again.

    I wan't to make this very clear....this is just a theory of mine and I don't have any science to back it up. Even derbesia has a number of secondary metabolites (toxins). It's nothing like Bryopsis, for sure, but it has them. I suspect that sea hare's know when to "take a breather" and process the toxins before eating again. My theory is not just pulled out of thin air. There are studies and a lot of anecdotal evidence of snails dieing from eating too much hair algae.

    hmm this is a good theory... i will keep tabs on him to see whats goin on. im working now so ill look in an hr or so and see how hes doing ...fingers crossed :)

    I had one that would often bury its self in the sand. Then it started laying eggs so i knew it was dying. When it eventually died, their was no corpse. But my skim mate was blood red.

    mabe it inked some do ink very dark purple ink.

    he is now in the same spot he buried himself but now he is on the sand,cant tell if its alive or not though

    Pick it up in your hand and then hold your hand as still as you can near a rock or the sandbed for 2 or 3 minutes. They'll start moving to get away from you if they are alive.
