Around july of this year I purchase a very nice looking seabea anemone, the guy I bought it from let me take the rock it was attached to so we didn't half to put any unnecessary stress on it by removing its foot. The anemone is doing great and has grown a lot since then, but after my skimmer broke which was about a month ago I didn't have any skimming for about a week, because I had ordered the aqua c remora from marine depot and had to wait on it, get the skimmer and a baffle is cracked on it so I half to send it back and get it replaced. I somewhat fixed the old broken skmmer at that time and it worked somewhat but my nitrates went up to about 10 ppm. The algae started to grow but only grew on the rock that had the seabea anemone on it. It hasn't spread to any other rock in the last month but has grown some what since then. It has stopped growing now but won't go away. I just want it gone because that rock has lots of sponges on it and other organisms and I don't want it to stay there. My parameters are:
    Nitrate 0 ppm
    Phosphate 0 ppm
    nitrite 0 ppm
    ammonia 0 ppm
    pH 8.3

I have looked on the internet but I cant find anything that looks similar to it.
Any one have any idea to what it is. I'm also limited to what I can do to get rid of it. I was thinking about taking a screw driver and chiseling it in half and putting the side with the algae through a dark period. But if I don't half to do that, that would be preferred? sorry the picture of the algae isn't very good, i had to resize the image and this was the only size that would fit.
    Thanks,
    Tanner

Ya I was thinking that to but it doesn't have any of the same characteristics besides the fact that it is green and hairy. Otherwise it is nothing like it, It hasn't spread at all, so I'm not to worried about it, I just want it gone. :-/

Good idea, That sounds like the best idea yet because I knew my seabea wouldn't like me putting him into a bucket and scrubbing the rock down that he's attached to.

yeh lots of people have mixed feelings about urchins..i always keep 1 in my tank because if hair algae ever pops up..i take him and move him to the rock its on..by morning it all gone..lol they are like little lawn mowers and unlike "algae eating" fish ALL reef safe urchins eat algae..so there isnt a hit or miss type thing..ur guarenteed it will eat algae. If u dont have any fiberous algae, they will knaw on the corraline..and that i cannot complain about! lol

Ya Once I get paid I'm gonna go buy one, have him in my tank for a day or two then package him back up and take him back to the store. ;D Thats the plan anyways.

When I bought some live rock from a LFS there were some pieces of algae that looked like that on them. Long green strings that were fairly thick. There are some floating around in my tank now and it hasn't spread at all.

Anyway, I have no idea what it is! But looks similar.
