So this has been going on for months but I am starting to become more curious about it. Sometimes when I am doing water changes I will get my upper arm against the legs on my Tek 4 bulb 48" fixture. When I do I sometimes get a little pinch comparable to grabbing on to electric fencing (if you have spent much time doing it). Though there is no pulsation like you get with electric fence.

Anyways today I got out the multimeter and read from the water to one of the finger adjustment screws on the leg and was getting 43v AC, but next to no amperage. Thoughts? Light leaking voltage?

Easiest way to diagnose this is measure voltage, turn off 1 thing, re-measure, and repeat until you find the culprit(s). I don't see how a light could be leaking voltage into a tank though unless it was submerged. You are probably just providing a path for electricity to flow when you touch the fixture.

I didn't actually mean it's leaking voltage into the tank, I meant that it's leaking in general.

I have experienced a slight sting on several occasions from several different light fixtures when my arm is wet, and in my aquarium and i just happen to touch the light with my arm. No sure if its just taking the path of least resistance (through you to the water) once you touch it or what.

I've had this happen on occasion a while back with one of my old fixtures. My thoughts are is that there might be some bit of stray voltage in the tank and when your arm is wet and you touch the light it travels from the water to the fixture. Just my thoughts. I would check the tank for stray voltage.

For what it's worth, I had a multistrip under my stand above my sump. I turned off the outlets, but didn't unplug them. It still leaked voltage into the tank. It wasn't until I unplugged the power strip that the voltage stopped leaking.

Hmm, I've tracked down 20v coming from my skimmer. Can't find the other 25v. I have 15 coming from the tank water upstairs but nothing seems to stop it.

I had some salt residue on a leg of my fixture I couldn't even see and absolutely got lit up. Turned out where one of the leg screw went into the fixture it was touching and exposed wire.
