ok so i think i had a good ground connection, and my results were
with every thing on i had 00.7 at the highest then dropped to 0.05 and was steady there. so i turned of the the strip that contains all the pumps except one. and it dropped to 0.01 so i plugged it all back in and tested it again back at 00.5, so i unplugged only my mini-jet 606 and it went down to 00.1 , so thats were im at, what reading am i looking for? (00.0), is 00.5-00.7 high?

after my lights turn off ill shut everything down and do it again one thing at a time.

Careful with your leading zeroes. With decimal places, zeroes are relevant, and no need for them to the left of the decimal. So is .7V at the high end, and .05V at the low end, accurate?

What voltage did you read with every item in the tank unplugged?

with everything but the lights unplugged i get a reading of .0V with occasional .1v when i first put the lil needle in the water.

with every thing plugged in i read .4V this time but when i did it befor it was as high as .7V

f.y.i. this is all with out the grounding probe in the water.

I think if you can feel a tingle when you touch the water you have more than .5 or .7 volts going through your water. Did you check for DC and AC voltage readings. Are you sure what scale you have the volt meter on? What are you grounding with?

Definately use a ground probe. They can save your from a dangerous shock. One time I found that my mag12 in my sump would intermittantly through out voltage. I had 36 volts at one time in my larger tank. It caused my montipora digitas to retract all polyps and stop growing.

i was using the center screw in the outlet plate, and also used the third grounding hole on a outlet, not sure what else i could reach with the probe that would possibly be grounded.

i had the meter on V AC turned the lil knob to 200, is this correct?

i was expecting a larger reading,

i tried again and read .5 with everything on, and .0 when the ground probe was in(attached to faceplate screw). so the screw should be ground or i would still read .5 right.

if the ground i am using for the meter is not really grounded then i should not get any reading right?

i had the probe in for the first 24 hrs last night, and today i have to say my pocilliapora really looked better than ive seen it in a while.

if im using the meter correctly, them my search for the leaky pump failed, as it seems to be that they all put out small small voltage, and the combo of them all gets me up to about .5-.7 V ac, this seems too low.?:-/
