I installed a wave maker with 3 MJ1200's in my 55g and I had a golby go crazy when I turned it on. I had some where around 36v in the tank due to the PH's. I don't have any submerged pumps now, all my pumps are external and I still have a ground probe plus GFCI circuits on all plugs except for all the 220v equipment.

Tangster, I got the probe today!!! Thank you! OK now what so I do with it? Is it as simple as it seems? Do I need to stick the whole end into the substrate? then I know put the other end onto a ground...like the screw on the water heater next to the tank.....right?? Check will be in the mail tomorrow morning!(not like check's in the mail LOL)

You don't need to submerge the probe into the substrate, you just have to submerge it in water, either in the main tank or the sump. Since I'm not sure what he sent you, I can't answer the other question (and Tangster is sick so I'm not sure when he'll see this). Is there just a little eyelet on the other end of the probe?

The meter might not be wrong. It depends on the integrity of the ground connection of the water heater pipe. If there is any resistance, you may still have a residual charge in your tank. But if it is below 1 volt, there is nothing you need to worry about.

when I turn the meter on it starts at 0.9 then drops slowly to about 0.3 where it stays, hmmm so if I read 5 then it's actually 0.2...I just thought of that!.....I'm thinking calibration....

Sounds reasonable. When you turn the meter on, connect the two probes together and the reading should be 0. If not calibrate it. With the probes separated and on a sensitive scale, you might see some random voltages.

0.2 is as low as it will go when I put the two leads together. Is there a way to calibrate it? Should I even bother?? here's a pic of it...
