Alright...not much substance to my story...just a stressed out goby that has me angry...I am working on getting a 41 gallon tank set up and had picked up a 6 line wrasse and a dracula goby, probably over a month ago. So, I set up a QT tank...about 6 gallons. The fish were doing alright and as the 6 line got more comfortable, it seemed he became more agressive to the drac goby and would never let him hang out. So the goby would rarely come out of his hiding areas under the rock. He would only eat what little food would float his way. I was worried that he would not get enough to eat and eventually starve. So I removed the 6 line to a separate holding tank. A week or so later, my girlfriend and I were in the pet store looking at a couple pistol shrimp hanging out with a goby, of course my girl was enamored by the shrimp building and destroying and building and destroying each other's work. So I bought them and put them in the tank with the goby. One shrimp paired right up with the goby and the other one was doing his thing. I had later got a peaceful mis bar clown and put him in the same tank. He never bothered the goby. Four or five days had pasted and I had not seen the goby. I was worried that he finally starved and died. So against my better judgement, I moved everything in the tank and dredged the sand, looking for him to no avail. So I thought he had died and the shimps had eaten the carcass. The next day, I tested the water and the nitrates had spiked due to the typhoon I had induced the day prior. I was preparing to do a water change and noticed the dried up goby on the floor behind the tank. Unbelievable! I even have a lid on this tank but the poor suicidle goby had had enough and shot right through either the inch or so wide filter slot or either of the inch square corner holes. Lessons learned from goby ownership: If you like to watch your fish , don't buy a goby...my other goby just hides all the time and only comes out to eat. 2) Do not be fooled by the antics of the shrimp in the store, IMO the LFS purposely put little sand in the display, so you can see these shrimp; I have learned that they are just as reclusive as the goby and my poor girl friend rarely sees them when she is visiting me...lol
