Ok, so what it looks like to me is in the first pic, the tube in the middle is what hooks up to your return pump, the 17HF. The one overflow splits to feed both the sump (on the left) and a built in fuge on the right, you can control the flow to each with the valves. The other overflow dumps right into the sump. Your skimmer would be placed in the left chamber. You'll probably have to fiddle with water height for the skimmer (place eggcrate under the skimmer to raise it out of the water, ie, make the water more shallow).

For the right side of the sump, I'm not sure if it's a true fuge or rather a trickle filter for bio-balls or whatnot. Which way does the water exit that chamber, over or under a wall/baffle?

No worries. My sump had the chamber's water flow under as well, but the wall was still 1/2" down on the inside from the top of the tank, so I sealed up the bottom, filled it up with sand for a DSB, and viola! water flowed over instead of under... a fuge! ;D

So I ran the skimmer all night and when I looked at it this morning it was FULL of just clear water.. not dirty water. is this because there were too many bubbles?

your wasting your time setting that skimmer up in the rocks. just get a powerhead and keep the water moving. skimmers go crazy with even a disturbance in the tank, you stir the bottom sand it throws a skimmer off. see what im saying? to much going on to worry about the skimmer till its in the sump.

take the skimmer and put it in a 5 gallon bucket of vinegar and water, run it over night. this will give it a good cleaning and give you a fresh start with it

when its in the sump. it still will take a few days to settle in. and than you can tweak it. give it a day of just running . than start to adjust it. be careful they skim wet to start. and if you keep dumping that water often in that first day or two. it can change your salt level. keep an eye on your salt level.
i felt lost with my first skimmer years ago. of course the one i bought was junk. that didnt help matters. lol looks like you picked up a nice one in the deal :)

Good luck with your new tank and all the goodies that came with it :) now the fun starts. all that extra room to fill.

50/50 mix should clean it up real good. It won't hurt anything if your not right on with the mix either. I usually just pour some in and thats it lol
