Anybody have one of these bad boys? Just looking for personal experiences as far as feeding. I have read that they only should be fed every 4-6 days, then I heard they should be fed everyday. I feed it guppies and ghost shrimp and its difficult because my paddlefin wrasse eats the food before the angler can. Any easier way to feed these guys?

I would honestly stop feeding it guppies because they are not a very nutritional food source for any saltwater fish "neither are goldfish btw"
What I would do is buy the live mysis shrimp that you can order online and feed them those instead, you can order a bag of like 250-500 and setup a small 5-10 gallon tank to store them in and then toss 15-20 into the angler tank and let him stalk his food naturally...this will also feed the wrasse that is in the tank
Plus you get the added benefits of a much more nutritional food source AMD a food source that while it is living in the tank waiting to be eaten is also cleaning up the tank by eating leftover waste products and algae in the tank

Mysis shrimp will never keep an angler full, I'm afraid. They would need a kajillion a day. The ghost shrimp are indeed the correct ones to use. As long as you are trying to train, guppies will be a good tool. I do find ghost shrimp to be a little easier, however, as the fish more readily takes to a frozen/thawed ghostie and then onto other frozen fare.

Here's our guide to maybe help you convert the little guy. We've kept that species in the past.

I just got one and Greg and Renee are as far as i'm concerned experts in the area. Great stuff! I'm feeding my 1 1/4" Wartskin a ghost shrimp every other day.

This is an awesome link. Thanks! Question tho...if my fish happens to be one that never ever converts, is it bad for the angler to eat live ghost shrimp forever? Health wise that is?

unfortunatly we have an angler that never has converted, have had it for a year and will not eat anything that isnt swimming. I even killed a ghost shrimp and put it in the tank, he swam up to it, looked at it and walked away from it.

With any type of live food you want to gut load the feed. Basically, soak the shrimps food in a HUFA solution prior to feeding it to the fish. I simply feed Froggie ghost shrimps only. I feed him about 6-9 ghost shrimps every 4-6 days. Problem with anglers is that they can actually overeat themself and kill themself. It can cause liver damage to them if you feed more than just 1-2x week. At times i have even gone to every week and half between feeds
