Stringy algae

Never had this on the sand until i moved my powerheads around, but don't think it has anything to do with flow you can see by the pic that the hairy stuff is flowing to the right flat on the bed with the current so i'm at a loss ???

 

Looks like red slime algae. Luna

 

Thats black slime, thats a good indicator your lights are on way too long. Turn your lights off for atleast 24hrs then cut your light period in half for a few days and it should go away on its on.

 

Thank you geekdafied it is a kind of stringy black slime my lights 78watt of actinics & 156watt whites have been on 10 hours a day what would you recommend?

 

If you dont have a lot of corals, I would leave them off for 2 days. Then cut back to like 5hrs a day. Until its gone anyways. Then increase it to something like 8-9hrs. It also depends on what type lights you have too and how old the bulbs are etc.

 

I dont usually see that slime unless somebody forgot to kick the lights off. 12+hr light period for a few days and it will show up in my tanks. Then I just kick the lights for a couple days (with numerous corals, various types) with no harm to anything other then the slime.

 

Its t5 lighting , their about a month old only...

 

Theres your answer... As I said before, leave them off for a few days, and then cut back to like 5 hrs a day after that and slowly build up. Too much light too soon is what started it to grow.

Well this is weird, the chalk goby turns the stringy Black stuff over leaving a nice clean bed for most of the day, i go bed turn lights off, get up around 8ish still clean bed , no lights on in tank, then over 3 to 4 hours it creeps back (NO LIGHTS ON) after nothing on the snd to this in 3 or 4 hours...Here's a short clip...
