Is this normal, or something I should be concerned about?
I have a toadstool leather, seems to be doing very well.
But at night I've noticed that there's these little gassy looking strings coming off of it, waving around.

Is it the "toxin" that Leathers have? Or something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to get some pics.

This is normal, the shed like this from time to time. Sometimes the entire head will be closed for days when this happens. Generally a sign of a growth spurt from what I have noticed.

I can't really say good or bad if you remove it, but its a natrual process and with this in mind I would think it best to let it do it's thing on its own. I don't think the shedding was negatively impacting your leather as much as it was simply going through the stage and its appearance was likely due to the molting and not the molt irritation itself

Sorry to have to disagree with you but i don't think it is the coral shedding I'm pretty sure those are Ctenophores.

    Hi Matt,

Never be sorry to offer an opinion.

hard to diagnose the difference. Here is a decent write-up on leather shedding. please post something on Ctenophores and the OP can see the two research sites to try and diagnose what he has. I thought Ctenophores had more"things" coming off the stiky strands - could be wrong.

Perfect Matt ! thank you. So Weir Head, now I think you have the information necessary. In my opinion, if the strands are seen to be coming off and floating about the tank you are looking at coral shed. If the strands remain and actually expand and contract you are seeing Ctenphora.

    Thanks guys.
And I guess Ctenophores are "Non Predatory", so it's not a big deal?
