so i know there are a lot of engineers on here...
Anyway, Robman gave me this idea and i wanted to pass it by everyone to make sure I am not missing anything.
Im buying a 60g cube, but I wanted the rimless look and cant find one without a rim locally. So, I am getting one with a rim, then removing the frame and then placing a small triangle of glass in the corners in an attempt to eurobrace it. the dimensions are 24x24x24.
my roommate is a biomedical engineer and he explained to me about fluid statics and pressure work and said it would be fine... but he didnt do any math. what do you guys think?

I would be a little wary of only the corners. I'm no engineer, but traditional Eurobraces go all the way around the tank. I would be curious about this too.

The weakest point would be in the middle of the panes of glass. The eurobrace should go all the way around, as the center of the top edge of the glass would be the weakest point on that edge, and need reinforcing the most.

The fact is that you're gonna have square panes, which are the least optimal for distributing load as-is. There's a reason why most tanks have rectangle panes of glass; it's because the center of a square has the most load on it, and rectangles avoid having as much pressure in the center because the edges are closer and can distribute the load better.

theoretically if you did a DIY eurobrace it should be good, but you need to make sure the euro bracing adhesive you use is top quality and you do a really good job attaching it (make sure the glass is level for sure).

In practice it makes me nervous since there are so many things that can go wrong, and it also depends on how the corners are attached. in many aquariums all the pressure is held by the frame and he sides are just sealed with a weak silicone, if this is the case then taking the frame off the top is asking for trouble.

I would seriously consider having your LFS order a rimless one for you.

i have seen a custom 130g (31x31x31) rimless cube so its definitely doable to go that deep with a rimless

if you scroll to the pressure on submerged surfaces section I believe it shows what I am thinking.
The pressure being exerted in the vertical direction increases as the depth is greater... im neuropsychology, not engineering so let me know if i an not understanding it?

also, the sides will have a brace on them which i will not remove

Bill (poolkeeper1) on here did that to his 59 gallon. It looks great and is holding water just fine.
