So, I'm in Portland until next Wednesday, and I was just wondering from the folks of you that live in the area ... what are some cool things to do? What are some good places to eat? I've got the weekend and nights to do as I wish after work ;D

    Thanks :)

There's some cool spots on Hawthorne in Portland. How long are you there? What do you want to do? What's the poison? There's a ton of good aquatic stores........ The zoo.

Local restaurants that are good (I like to eat at local restaurants rather than large franchises when I travel), landmarks or cool parks (multnomah falls is on my list), going to see the spruce goose this weekend.

Just anything you think is fun :) I may check out some lfs before I go, not sure how well corals would travel though.

Hawthorne has some cool restaurants. It's also got a pretty good night life. You may catch a random show while you are there. It's an older cool neighborhood. Downtown Portland is pretty cool. Little China. Downtown has some nice spendy places to eat. The Spruce Goose is definitely cool looking. You'll be in awe when you see it from the road.
So, you are driving from Salem to Portland?

The Saturday Market is pretty cool in Downtown P-town. There's a ton of micro brewery spots. Tom McCall park. It's only about 90 minutes to the coast to.........

Very cool man :) I was in Scottsdale Arizona the last couple days, and just flew in to Portland this morning. Working at the Plaid Pantry office / stores - flying back to TN next Wednesday AM and have the weekend free so I thought I'd see the sights :)

Thanks for the recommendations - I'll definitely stuff out :)

How's the coast? Haven't been to the Pacific this far north before.

It's alot like the coast in Northern Ca. Lot's of rocks and cliffs...... Crabbing is an easy venture for the day also. You are going to be stoked on Multnomah Falls.

South Park blocks has lots of great funky retail around it, and the Saturday market.

The Real Mother Goose is an awesome craft gallery full of amazing work from around the world, all hand made, pretty high end stuff. I have a few friends with work in there.

Widmer Brew Pub was decent, great beer.

Dante's Inferno is a GREAT fire + burlesque show.

The food carts around down town have some good stuff, if you can find a crepe booth with strawberries and custard, hit that one.

VooDoo Donut, they sell the worlds BEST donuts, it's a big donut covered in Bacon and Maple glaze...

The main Columbia Sportswear store is there, good deals and full stock, if you need anything like that.

The Japanese Garden and the Rose Test Garden are great, the entire Washington Park area is awesome.

If you're into glass there are a few great studios and galleries. I'd highly recommend Elements Glass Studio and Bullseye Gallery. The Mark Wooley Gallery often has glass work as well. If you're looking for any smoking accessories a friend of mine runs Bridging Boro w/ some nice high end work in it.

get a trimet pass, will take you just about everywhere by bus, train, or trolly.

Have a nice trip, I'll be up there in a few months, let me know if you find anything else exciting.
