Well I wouldn't because as I understand it likes to float freely in the tank, tumbling around. I wouldn't want someone in my main display that was able to blow around and also block out the lights I spend dearly on from reaching my corals.

    YMMV

Like J.P said the stuff is just aquatic tumble weed and if you loose those hounds in your tank you will never get it back under control. It will take over and smother out most everything . I put a hand full in a 10 x2 x2 ft in our hot house grow out trough last June and it took completely over tossed out a few hundred ponds over the last few months. thick as weeds from top to bottom and side to side.

Thanks all. Chaeto is staying where it is. Another question though. With my big tank being a FOWLR, is there anything I can put in the main tank for color? I don't want artificial decorations as they are a PITA to keep looking good. That was why I asked about the chaeto. I have a few button polyps that my juv emperor hasn't taken a liking to yet but I know he will eat most anything else. They are the usual blah brown and not really appealing. If I can't put macro in my tank could you advise me on what the emperor will leave alone? I have some green and red disc mushrooms in my reef that are about ready to trim back. Would he devour those?

the nicest nano i ever saw had chaetto in it,but she somehow had it wedged behind the rock work where you could'nt see it.actually it was a 40 gallon lps tank of the month on reefcentral a long time ago.but to answer your other question, you could use halemeda, money plant.i'd rather add corals.
