So first of all any level of evap majorly effects the skim quality. But that's not the point since I have a fuge and the skim is in the back of my biocube where the water level is always consistent.

My problem is the dag on suction cups that hold the skimmer to the aquarium. The suction cups are magnetic so they hold pretty well to each other but the skimmer itself is attached by these plastic brackets that also use to hold the wires upright. They are connected through 3 1/8" dia dowels that "stick" into the skimmer itself. They are a HUGE cheap pathetic excuse to attach a skimmer and anytime I slightly bump the skimmer in the wrong direction it detaches and spills $%^7 all back into my tank, it's very upsetting where I want to drive over this skimmer and send a pic to Hydror.

Anyway any one with ways to reattach this thing snug and secure that'd be great, I think I have few ideas at the moment but work is calling me in so I gotta hit the road.

Anyway, for a nano skimmer, it beats the biocube skimmer, and that's all I'll say -- which isn't saying much at all since most of oceanics products are chinese recycled garbage.

Post script-- sorry for the rage, it's just a subject that pisses me off.

Will post pics this evening. Will the tunze fit in the back of the biocube?

I had the same issues with mine. I finally super glued the plastic holders to the skimmer for a permanent fix. Then took it out of my tank...permanently :)

Yupp! I added the upgraded skimmer cup so I could close the lid. Here are some pics.

Nana that's a great idea w the super glue,I was going to try zip ties or magnets.

Biocube the tunze looks very similar to the slimskim just w a bigger cup.

Anyone ever notice over time the bubbles get smaller? Not sure but I think its due to detritus build-up. Once. Month I have to remove the skimmer and clean the pump or it stops producing enough bubbles to skim properly. Its a pita and realistically I want an external skimmer that's over rated (90g maybe?). That way I have lots of skim and much easier to maintain if it was external

I would suggest doing this. Are you still running your slim skim, nanareefer?

I did notice the same problem with mine when I had it running in the display. But now that I've got it in the sump I just let it sit on the glass bottom and the water level is at the correct height, so I don't need the magnets.

I have found that bubbles get smaller and the skimmer pulls out less skimmate over time. This is likely due to build up of waste protein within the neck of the skimmer cup, and happens with all skimmers.

I just try to clean my cup about 1 per week - and the skimmer body every other month - and it has been working quite well for me. I'm finally pulling out some dark green skimmate.

How many gallons is your tank? I would not suggest going over the 2x total volume rule, and would more than likely stick within the range of 1.5x volume.
