My car started acting funny and was making bad noises. I have a 2007 SUV (not saying what kind or brand..not their fault) has 48,000 miles on it. (Highest number of miles I have ever had on my car...usually trade them in before now)

Well friend checked and oil was not even reading on dip stick. Was probably 3-4k miles over needing a change. Topped it off (4 quarts) and still acting funny.

So I took it in to my mechanic (who I have gone to since I was a little kid and my dad knows) and found alternator was out. There was not one single alternator for my particular model in the U.S. No rebuilt ones etc. There was 19 on backorder and could take anywhere for 1 to 2 weeks to get to U.S.

Today it surprised the mechanic and came in. He took the old alternator off and whalla! The water pump was under it and is out. So I could choose to wait a few months and pay more to get it replaced (will have to remove the alternator) and no guarentee how long it would last, or pay to get it replaced now.

SOOOO,,,,, at about $1100 for car repairs. (I priced the alternator and was about the same as what my mechanic charged)

Plus my brand new fridge is at home rattling, my water heater is leaking, computer acted up....grrrrr!

So, I might have a few tanks that might be up for sale soon if things dont stop breaking!

Most warranties cover 3years/36000 mi. Man for the price of parts I would think you were driving a Euro-mobile. I thought I was hosed.. the rotors on my 2007 accord warped at 16,000 miles, and what do you know, brakes are only covered for 12,000 mi. BOOOOO!

If it was 4 quarts low of oil, expect more major repairs in the near future.

    3 year/36,000.
Not an American car! Japanese car.

I checked and I was stupid and did not get the extended warranty I guess I figured I was going to trade it in before problems

The oil thing has me worried. They did check for leaks and had all the filters etc changed with the oil change

A vehicle with 48000 miles on it should not have burned 4 qts of oil in 6-7 thousand miles. It had to have went somewhere.
