Am I the only one who battles aquarium equipment with suction cups that refuse to stay sucked the glass? Lately nothing will stay stuck to the glass for than a few minutes. Suction cups used to work just fine up to about 2 weeks or so ago. It's driving me crazy to keep having to attach my floating heater every half hour!

Is there some type of trick any of guys use to keep your thermometers, heaters or whatever put?

I battle with the floating thermometer. I did battle with the floating heater in the tank. This is one of the reasons I built a sump. Ironically, I have it suctioned to the bottom of the sump and it never comes unstuck in there. Go figure. It must have something to do with the algae preventing it from making a good seal to the glass. Try scraping the glass with a razor before sticking it. The suction cups do lose their softness over time and become brittle. Nothing you can do about that except replace them.

Battling with suction cups is one of the reasons I went with Koralia power heads. They stick with magnets. It comes with a big magnet to use on the outside of the tank opposite the power head. Those babys don't move.

This looks like a winner. I never seen these before, but that's probably because I've never looked for them. I'll check the LFS first because I want the immediate gratification of having it fixed now.

That seems really cool, but I don't have a sump. I'm going to try the magnets. There must be some type of algae on my glass that I can't see or something that preventing the cups from working. I have noticed lately lots of coepods or some other really really white small bug looking things crawling on the glass. The current suction cups are only 2 months old on the heater and thermometer.

+1 on using a mag-float to clean the glass before using a suction cup and another +1 on using the magnet suction cups (like the koralia's use)

I find with suction cups you need the glass to be real clean before sticking them on.

+1 Try cleaning the glass. Also suctions cups can get really hard over time and lose their effectiveness... just like the rubber seals and stuff in pumps and even car motors. They may just need replacing.
