I got some new power heads a week ago and they are working great to keep the water in the tank moving. They came with both suction cups and magnetic mounts. As the suction cup mounts were already attached I went ahead and used them.

Well this morning I walked up to the tank after starting coffee and it was VERY cloudy. Apparently the suction cups on one of the powerheads had lost suction and fallen off. This caused it to clear out a 2 foot by 2 foot area of all sand. Thankfully I had used new sand when I setup the tank about a month ago so it wasnt too dirty.

Hopefully I wont have any issues with ammonia or nitrites and hopefully the tank clears up soon.

Not really looking for help just more of a vent.

Now you know why most of us have abandoned suction cups..........

They were Koralia knockoffs made by SUNSUN. They really do move a ton of water and for getting two 1300GPH powerheads for $39.00 shipped I guess I cant expect the suck-tion cups to work well.

sometimes you get lucky and they stay put for months and months, other times, the things fall down within a couple of days

the last thing you want is this happening in a reef tank thats been set up a while
magnets or hanging brackets for me on power heads , especially the higher output ones most of us use these days

wierd. i have 3 powerheads in my 55. ones a koralia with the magnetic attachment. the other two look exactly like koralias, but they use the 3 suction cups. i have never had them fall. actually, they stick so good you really have to wrestle the things off the glass if you want to move them. i like the magnetic design because it is easier to get off the glass. did you make sure you had a good seal with all the suction cups?

Mine had the three suction cups per powerhead mounting method and only one powerhead fell off. The other one took some effort and my fingernail to get the suction cups to release. Oh well, they are both using magnet mounts now.

Actually, the problem is that the suction cups DON'T suck.

    ;)

fwiw, I would never trust suction cups to any powerhead, pump, or wavemaker. That is a sand storm waiting to happen.

Also, sun sun does make versions that have magnet mounts.
