    so i was reading some stuff, and i came across something that said sugar will make the cycle go much quicker and that it helps lower nitrates... true? not true?
    what will make the cycle quicker?

    i dunno about a cycle but i know sugar will make a 3 y/o kid go quicker!!!!

    There was talk about this a while back, I dont recommend this, esp. if you dont know what your doing. What happened to " taking it slow" method? Luna

    What it will do is "hyper" feed the bacteria needed in the nitrogen cycle, so in theory, yes, it will help to grow the bacteria quicker. But, that does not mean your cycle will go faster and could actually prolong it since you will at some point stop dosing sugar (or you should) and the extra bacteria feeding on the sugar dies off and your tank settles back to its equilibrium.

    The problem is... how do you test for sugar to know when enough is too much? You don't.

    Like Luna said.. its best to just let nature take its course.

    To add to this. you have no control over what Bacteria will grow, as good or bad will feed on the sugar.
    It's a proven system when done with a great deal of control and knowledge. So a lot more time is required
