"Hello rayjay it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our many forums. A few popular destinations include our General forum, our Off-Topic and our New to the Hobby forums which are very popular."

I tried to post in the
    "3reef Forum News & Information
News and information about this forum. Questions or suggestions welcome."

    But, I get this:
"rayjay, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

So, it appears as though suggestions are only welcome from some people.

I suggest that the first passage at the top of my post, be discontinuted.
If I had something to say, I would say it, but if others have covered what I would say, or if I don't have an answer that could help, I will not post, regardless of that passage. I don't have to be reminded that I "have not posted in a few weeks".
If all I wanted was to engage in a converstation, I would go to a chat page, not use a forum for that purpose.
Maybe this is the right section to post under as it doesn't count this post and I don't see any benefit in having a high post count that contains "empty" posts that are of no use to try to help solve someones problem.

rayjay - 3reef forum news is where I post news and announcements that appear on the homepage. That is not the proper board for feedback. Site feedback is welcome and the link called - 'feedback' can be found in the main navigation on the left. :)

The posting message you refer to is to encourage posting, as this site can only be successful if people post. ;) Since I installed that code that varies depending on your activity, posting has gone up, so it will remain.

You can always private message me or a 3reef moderator with these questions as well.

My next suggestion then would be to remove the misleading description then.
    "3reef Forum News & Information
News and information about this forum. Questions or suggestions welcome."
Now, back to the first point, where you replied:
"Since I installed that code that varies depending on your activity, posting has gone up, so it will remain".
That's like taking a 1 oz shot of liquor, and adding 12 oz of mix to it. You dilute the shot, but the only effective content of the total compilation is still just that one oz shot. If you add another shot of liquor, (doesn't have to be the same) then you strenthen the concoction again.
Unfortunately, when induced to post for the sake of posting, there is a lot more mix than shot added to many threads, effectively diluting those threads.

You had me there for a bit, wondering about the "left".
I guess because my bookmark takes me right to the forums, I didn't even know, or had forgotten, that there was a page with a "left" side.

That's a good point. I'll fix that a bit as members are welcome to respond to the site announcements and provide feedback.

That's a nice analogy but I still think the reality has been much more positive than that and it's not all about posting, it's about registering too, and the registrations went WAY up.

You should have a left nav in the forum as well. If you don't, click 'quick links' in the top nav and toggle the sidebar setting.

Believe it or not, the 3reef welcome message that is driving you crazy is much more compact and intregrated than many, many other sites out there. I've even seen some that follow you as you scroll.

And all it takes is one post to go away. So put it out of your memory and sleep well, it's gone. :)
