Making water for the first time. Hey all...looking for suggestions on whats the best way to move saltwater out of my 35 gal brute trash can to a water container.

    • Can I put a bulkhead w/ball valve on the side of the trash can? safe? Trash can kind of flimsy on the sides.
    • Aquarium siphon?

    What your methods?

    Thanks in advance! cheers :)

Is this a permanent system you're setting up for the water transfer or just a few times?

If I need to move water I normally throw my maxi jet 1200 into the container and just hook up some vinyl 1/2 inch tubing out to wherever I need it to go.

MoJoe: Ahh...thanks for that! not a permanent system. I will be mixing 20 gallons at at a time. So basically I will be making water once every 2 weeks.

Got it, the PH w/ tubing should be a pretty easy way then for you.

I don't have any extra power heads yet but I mix my water in a 20g Rubbermaid container and then use an extra siphon i have to siphon it out into smaller water buckets.

I was thinking of that as well. Putting the trash can on a table and siphon down. Thanks!

Hey, I use what I have, if it works, I can wait to upgrade. I have a 150 GPD ro/di unit so the whole process doesn't take me very long to be honest with you. In about 2.5 hours I can have 20 gallons of salt water made, heated, and mixed.
