Looking to get an anemone for my tank but not sure which on. I want to add lots of coral later but really not sure yet. I do have a Ocellaris Clownfish, an in the old tank he did hang out in a torch coral. So I am looking for an Anemone that once is settled will stay put. I have a 55 gallon w/30 gallon sump, my lighting system is it two light fixtures 17 inches long that contain 150W DE HQI Bulb 15000K
    2x 14W T5 High Output Actinic Blue

    any suggestions.

My first advice would be not to get one but, that's my opinion. What about a rose bubble anemone?

I have heard BTA move around alot even though they do not have a very strong sting they can still damage other Corals. With that said BTA are among the top three I am looking into.

Any and all anemones are going to move around if they don't like the setting. It's likely that it will move around a bit 'til it finds a suitable spot once acclimated. Also, they are (all) known for packing up and leaving a spot that it has lived for in for a while. I've kept a few and the thoughts are always lingering.

Is my anemone dying? Why does it look like that? Why is it moving? Is that coral going to die from the sting? Worst case scenario, it moves while you are asleep or at work, and ends up in a powerhead/overflow.

Then again, you could put it in your tank and it will act like a saint. Has never happened with me though. I'll never (probably) own another one again.

I do have a bta, it came with the rock I bought on CL. I think I got lucky as mine has stayed put for the most part. I"ve had him for 2+ years, he did move about 2 inches about a month ago and took out some of my ricordia. years ago I tried btas 2 times with out success. so as of now I am at a 33% rate which is not very good. Is the third one from experience, or luck, or a more muture tank? I think a little of each, but more luck then anything.

If you are new to the hobby(which it sounds like you are) an anemone is not a wise choice. I would suggest waiting till you have a little bit more experience rather than jumping in with a nem. Even expert aquarists have trouble keeping them. They are very unpredictable.

is this a reef tank with live corals ? To be totally honest all anemones should be kept in a species specific only system.. they will never do well in a reef tank . By that I mean they move around to find the location that suits their needs and unlike a rock or plant they never stay where you want them. Then to see a 50.00 anemone roll up and set down next to a 300.00 coral will make you fell bad.. Then there is the problem with power heads and the pumps or overflows turning them into chopped mush and then water quality falling off to septic tank levels and all your corals and maybe most fish die in hrs ..

If you decide to get one then all I can say is well education always cost.. Good luck with it..I'd let the clown keep hanging out in a coral they are stupid fish anyways we had some that lived in our clam thats right INSIDE the clam . The do not need an anemone and if the anemone does not set up shop where they want it they will torment it to move to a location of their choice.. BUr again good luck

I am not exactly new to the hobby I have had saltwater tanks for over a year. But then again I am not an expert either. I have had some BTA and a couple of flower anemones I have had problems with one BTA moving into my Return but the other was doomed from a nasty matis shrimp. The flowers I had the longest and never had much problems with then even against corals but they did move around alot. I sold them with the nano because I was worried that they wouldnt survive moving to a newier system.

But from the advise I am hearing sounds like I should just get a torch coral instead.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a gorgeos anenome in a 10 gallon nano tank. It is an off white color & opens up wide so the tenticles wave in the flow. Everyone who sees it say it the most beautiful one they have ever seen &, if someone had asked them about an anenome in a 10 gallon they would have said they were crazy ! I have had mine over 2 years.
I do nothing special, except, when I feed the tank with frozen shrimp, I use a turkey baster & blow some right into the anemone. It closes right up over it. I have a clown fish which spends 3/ 4 of its time in the anenome. The anenomy traveled some when I first got it, but it has settled now for a long time in the back right corner of the tank away from my corals. ( so far )If it starts moving toward my corals, I'll just move as many as I can.I would highly recommend an anenome. In my experience, they are beautiful & require little care.
