This sucks, thankfully I have a ground probe tied into the GFI outlet so that if it tripped it would shut off the power to the tank. Well it turns out that the voltage is coming from the skimmer pump "after a few min of trial and error" Thankfully none of the fish or corals look any worse for ware!!!! that is the good thing, now I am out a skimmer " I have wanted to replace it for along time" so my question is
do I wait and order the parts for the Bullet 2 skimmer, and the pump, or do I get a Warner Marine K2 or something else???

I am going to take a couple of hours to make my decision so I don't do something snap, and check to make sure my fish are ok....

GRRR..... if it is not one thing its another

I'm not really sure I understand what is wrong. But if the pump on your Bullet 2 is putting current into your tank. A quick and cheapest fix would to just replace the pump?

sorry should have been more specific, right now I am running a skimmer that is in sump with a sumerged pump, its putting current into the tank, the new skimmer "bullet 2" needs a new Beckett injector assembly, and a pump for it, I think I am just going to get what i need but I wondered if there were any better skimmers out there

yeah there are better skimmers but they are really pricey. I would just get the beckett and pump for the bullet

Personally, I think there are a lot of good skimmers out there and I consider the Bullet 2 to be one of them. I don't have an issue with their ability to skim, I have an issue at the power it takes to do that. A heck of a lot more than any of the high quality needle wheel skimmers available today.

I had a Mag 7 on my Aqua C and tossed it for a BK 160. I got rid of a lot of unwanted heat with that move. I have heard many Beckett and spray injector owners complain of how finicky they are and their inconsistent performance. I found the same with my AquaC. The BK was truly set and forget. 100% consistent in it's performance.

I really do not see the need for running high power pumps to feed becketts when needle wheels will do the same with much less. I sold my BK 160 and my K2 was delivered today. I expect the same set and forget performance with it. The cone is just the latest tweak along with bubble plates. Personally, I would put the money towards a needle wheel and the K2 would be a very very good choice. Much less tweaking and much less power and heat. Plus they are very open to mod.

In the same class you would be looking at Vertex IN-180, ATB 10.5, K2, WM AS-200.....

I agree that a new pump and injector would be the cheapest way to go. But that will probably get you half way there. Power consumption and more power to run your chiller or cooling if needed will still cost every day.

What kind of skimmer did you have.. I have had issues with coralife super skimmer pump putting current in my tank. I replaced the pump then that one went bad in a couple of days. GRRR

an old coral life that I got when I got the tank from craigs list. I just don't know, I don't think that the reeflo dart will put heat into the tank but the sumerged pumps do that.... but for almost the same price I could either option just not sure, I know the bullet 2 is a good skimmer, but I have heard that the others do a better job. I know if I go with the bullet I need to drain my sump and drill the hole for the new pump. that and I can setup the sump the way I want it, the other I just replace what I have..... I have seen Otties tank and I know tangster suggest the bullet but what is everyone else using

I did not realize you were running the pump external. You are correct it will not heat the water, but it still consumes more power. Don't think you have a bad skimmer. It is very good at skimming. I have dealt with PM and they are a good company. After going needle wheel, I see no reason to run anything else.

I bought my K2 for $625 shipped. It was a blem. You might call them to see if there is any more. Jon at WM runs a great company and I have enjoied working with them so far.

If its the issue of money, if the cost of replacing the parts is equal/greater to a new skimmer, than thats a no brainer, get a new skimmer. If not, just buy the pump and Beckett injector assembly. I've only heard great things about Bullet skimmers. If the issue is that "daddy wants a new toy" well then, thats a whole new ball park;D
