You always have to get replacement media for it. I just use one of Tangsters DIY Coil Denitrators.

Sulfur denitrators beat coil dentrators hands down. No contest.
    • Coil denitrators takes several weeks to months to cycle and produce results - if they produce results at all (I tried two of them and neither worked).
    • Sulfur denitrators fully cycle in a few days (not an exaggeration) and start reducing nitrates immediately thereafter. Complete elimination of nitrates takes at most a few weeks. The sulfur denitrator I built cycled in 3 days and eliminated my nitrate problem (were at 20 for months) in about 3 weeks.
    • As for replacement media... the media should last for at least 12 months or longer. I've heard 2.5 to 3 years. Besides, who cares when the unit fully re-cycles in 3 days?
As for the sulfur denitrator in the eBay posting... not the best design I've seen. You could build a much better one yourself.
