If i have a sump and i need some sort of mechanical filtration with some sort of filter pad or something, can i just get 2 filter socks and be done with it? i know they need to be rinsed every day but i think it will be worth it if thats all the filter pads i need and if it gets the job done like everyone says they do. I would get this. Pretty nifty, it comes with something to hold to the side of the tank. I would get 2 of these and split the overflow prefiltered water into 2 pipes and then make them go in these socks.

FYI: id get the 4" ;)

    thanks,
    ryan

EDIT: i ask this because this web site drfostersmith keeps emphasizing the word "PRE-filter" so im in a dilemma

I like filter socks a lot better than pads. I have 4 of the large 100 micron socks and end up rotating socks every 3 days or so. to clean them, I run the washer empty on a 20 minute "spin and rinse only" cycle with only water, then do the same cycle with bleach and socks, then a third one with only water and socks.

    Thanks for your help.

So they can be in fact a replacement for a filter pad?? And looking at the web site, do they come with a 100 micron or 200? Im thinking 200 but im not sure...

And do you think that 2 socks are necessary? I guess it would be a lot cheaper in the long run but just tell me and ill do whatever. Which would be more efficient? if i got 2 i would split the overflow line in half. Would this be better than not splitting it and using only one sock? is it the opposite?

    Thanks

1 filter sock at a time should be plenty.

Ok thanks so much for sticking with me for all my questions. Karma to you.

I have just one more question since you seen pretty damn handy with these socks ;D. And by the way im going to do what you said in the washer. But before i do my permanent plumbing, are you sure i shouldnt split the line in 2 just to be completely safe in case i want one later on? because other than the pre filter on the overflow, thats all the mechanical filter i have. I just want to be sure its adequate. Thanks again!
