okay so i am thinking about adding on to my fuge and making it bigger. so i would have a 20 gallon fuge (fuge only) and a 20 gallon sump which has my protein skimmer in it. so i was gonna put them side by side and put 2 pumps one in the fuge and one in the sump to circulate them as i dont have room to put them the length way. so what do you guys think would this work?

ok, on the left upper corner i have the inlet from the DT... just a normal return pipe. Then i placed a small powerhead (75 gph) in the left bottom corner for some added circulation. It is set on a timer to only be on for certain times of the day, not at all at night. On the right side i built my own "homemade" overflow ($15) out of pvc pipe. you can find the directions here. and then from there i have another line going out of the overflow into the sump. Just make sure that the output of the overflow is ABOVE the level of the sump. This means that your fuge will have to be above your sump.

That way you can power everything with gravity and one pump... it works out very nicely i might add

i was just gonna get 2 small pumps and make a baffle in the refugium to fit the pump in and i have plenty of room to put another pump in my sump. i dont want anything more in my display tank. i was gonna use like 2 100 gph pumps or 2 70gph pumps to do this. so it would be cheap.

I can not stress this enough. Use glass on glass! Silicon will NOT adhere to acrylic!!

i dont see what you would be adding to your DT here... you just run it off of your existing overflow.
is it a hang on back overflow or is your tank drilled

That is going to be pretty hard to run. Overflows just overflow. You have to control how much it is. One pump only push x amount to the display and that overflow.... using two pumps is not very practical. You have to supply to the fuge, then let gravity do the work to get it to the sump. One return pump, one overflow, two containers.

yes i know about glass to glass. and i only have one hose outlet on my overflowbox so i dont see how it will work. dont have that much room to raise my refugium in my stand. and i deffinetly cant raise my sump my skimmer is about an inch and a half aways from the top of my stand.
