I have a 55g DT and a 20g sump. I'm not totally happy with some elements of the plumbing, so want to do a quick change there. Plus I also want to give it a clean.

My idea was to get rid of the water in the sump, clean it and add new water to the sump. The question is, would 20g be too big a change, or would I be better saving say half of the water and just adding 10g new water?

    Water Change

55 gallon + 20 gallon = 75 gallon twv changing 20 gallons is a pretty large amount. Not knowing what's in your tank and based on my water changes i did when i had a 55 gallon. I would go with a 10 gallon change as i used to change 5 gallons a week with cleaning glass and sand.

Man, I remeber i had a leak in my sump once, and to get the sump into my stand we had to take the top off the stand. So when it leaked I had to drain the dt, get the sump out of the stand, and clean out all the sand and whatnot in the sump, and fix the leak. Then I had to wait over night for the sealent to cure, while my dt is running on the floor with a crappy hob filter. That gave my sump a good clean haha.
