Someone I know was having a little bit of trouble keeping the temps down
in his tank. So I offered to build cooling fan bracket that he could mount
on the top rail of his sump.

Here is what I ended up with, this Triple Fan cooling unit. All totaled I have
    about 30 Bucks invested.

I made the tray out of 1/4 plexi, which I know it's most likely a little overbuilt
but I figured better safe than sorry.

I get scraps at the local Lowes for next to nothing but I used 6x30 sheet of
1/4 Cast Acrylic with shipping - Cost $8.50

All these components came from Tiger Direct.com but you can also get them
from Ebay for a little bit cheaper.

I used 3 - 80mm Ball Bearing fans you can use the sleeve bearing one but
I have found them to be just a bit louder - Cost $7.47

I used silicone rubber fan mounts to keep the noise level down - Cost $7.20
Believe me it is really quiet so they were well worth the cost.

The fans are protected by chrome fan guards - Cost $8.97
I got zapped by the fans twice when I was testing this so I figured that they
would be a good idea. You can get the Black plastic ones on ebay for about
the same price but I just happend to have these.

Power is supplied by a 12 volt remote power supply that I actully get for free
but you can get them for 5 to 9 bucks on ebay. - Cost $6.00

Like I said I have about $30 invested, not to bad considering you can pay
up to 50 or 60 bucks for something like this.

metal halides raise the temp of your tank.

If you don't intend on running a chiller to keep temps down , then fans is a must.
