well last night when of course, i was away from home, i get a call from my dad saying that my sump cracked and water was leaking out everywhere and that there was only about 2 or so gallons left.
so i told him to turn off the main pump and move the heater to the main tank. he did all that. so i just had to wait till tomorrow when i was back home.

when i got home i was kinda shocked/angry cause i dont think anything could have broken it, nothing had fallen over or anything.
my dad tipped up the tank last night to keep the last 2-3 gallons from leaking out. so here comes the pics.

basicly the crack is a m shape with a crack going off from the m. it goes from the very bottom almost all the way to the top.

heres the tank outside after we took all the baffles out (will be putting in the next one) you can see the crack better

so we had to do something, temporary bucket sump

so basicly right now im a bit stressed out and just trying to relax and watch football.

on the next one we are going to sand the baffles down a bit just in case they were causing some sort of pressure ont the tank. i dont think that was the case though.

    bleh

That sucks man, sorry to hear. At least your display is fine and you're getting a new sump up and running!

are the baffles acrylic or glass? if acrylic, did you allow enough room for expansion? I leave about an 1/8th inch gap in between the edges of the acrylic and the glass tank. This gives the acrylic room to expand and contract as it does so at a different rate then the glass itself.

you don't have a mantis shrimp in the sump do you? I've heard that they are capable of cracking a tank...just a though.

It does suck none-the-less - sorry to hear about that!

how tight did he sump fit in the stand?? my sump fit was very tight and then connected to the fuge ( 10 ten gallon tanks under a 55). i think the tight fit combined with the vibrations from the return pump cracked my tank
