    Hello,

I have a 180 I am setting up and I want to put a 75 gallon sump under it. I was wondering if anyone had any sump plans for a SW sump I could look at.

Also with FW I always put a pre filter at the inlet then it trickled down over bio balls/scrubbies, then to the next chanmber wich I had purigen then it went into the 3rd chamber where it was pumped back into the tank.

Do you guys use things like purigen for SW and is there any thing else I should consider putting in my sump?

A refugium could be really helpful, the a skimmer will remove waste before it breaks down into nitrates and phosphates and the macro algae in the refugium can use up any left over nitrates and phosphates to keep your levels nice and low. Bioballs can be effective, but you'll need to clean them often or they cause more issues than they solve, I use a plain filter pad in my sump in between one of the baffles to catch particulates, and replace it once a month(only like 8$ or so), keeps things simple.

This site has plenty of designs you can sue for ideas- Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums

    Good luck!

I'm going to put filter pads at the top of the bio balls to keep them from getting gunk on them..... do you see a problem with them still?
