Just get GE silicone 1 windows and doors. It is reef safe, and from what several knowledgeable people have determined the all glass brand silicone that they say is for aquarium use is the exact same silicone as the GE 1 window and doors, just with a different label and costs a lot more.

See GE makes the aquarium silicone for AGA/ Aqueon. Years ago, the GE1 said it was safe for use on aquariums, but since AGA started branding their own GE product, the "not for aquarium use" verbiage was put on the GE 1 tube instructions.

    Gotta love lawyers.

As far as measurements go, you will need to be accurate as once the glass is cut, there's no leeway. That's one reason I like acrylic. I used acrylic in my 20 gal. sump. It is 3/16" I believe, so almost a quarter inch thick and I just really put a ton of silicon on both sides to hold it in place. Has worked so far.

I have also heard and read the same thing. I was just more comfortable using the silicone that said it was for aquarium use, because then I was sure it did not contain the mold-mildew inhibitors. For the extra couple of dollars it I felt it was worth it.

I guess, but when you make a tank with silicone then the 9 dollars a tube difference, times as many tubes as you need adds up quickly. Plus I know it's reef safe, so it didn't bother me.

I used like 6 tubes IIRC on my 200g tank's front panel install and the sealing of the overflow to the back of the tank. I looks at it as I saved like 54 dollars on silicone, on a tank that cost me 400 dollars to make.

Let it cure for at least 24 hours before you leak test it.
