I havea question about sump drains. Is there any negative effects of having the drain fully submerge into the sump?? When I have it fully submerged my system is nice and quiet - the splashing in the sump is obviously eliminated, but also any sound from the drain pipe is eliminated too...

I did notice t hat there was a drip at the hose clamp that connects to the bulkhead, but I am not sure if that is from the hose submerged or if it was a splash....

    Any opinions?

Hose clamp on the bulkhead? Did you put a hose directly on the bulkhead?

The drip is actually not from the hose clamp - poorly explained, sorry.. It coming out at the top of the hose where the hose meets the bulk head. VERY tiny drip. I actually wiped it pu and havent seen any more..

Oh ok got ya. I thought you put a hose on the threaded part of the bulkhead, thats a no-no. Keep an eye on it or it will turn into salt creep city!

As for the submerged drain line, I think you will be fine. I have an Aqueon Proflex sump, and its actually set up that way.

I like it so far, I still putting the final touches on my plumbing. My DIY durso standpipes put a lot of air into the plumbing making it(the plumbing) loud. Not crazy loud, but the tank is in my living room so I want it as quiet as possible. So I'm waiting on a pair of gate valves to come in so I can switch to a Herbie style drain.

The sump itself seems quiet up to about 750-850ish gph. But I suspect once its run and you get a good slime coat built up you could have a little more flow if you wanted it. Only other thing is when its full (return pump off and water settled) the sides bow out a little. Kinda scary but it seems well built. All and all I like it.
