my sump water level is up/down. Not by a lot, but I can see the difference through out the day. Sometimes, I have high level of water in my sump where my protein skimmer will go a little crazy because of the water level, and sometimes, the water is low. (opposite in DT, where it is high when sump is low, etc.)

What can be causing this? Any idea? the pump? I would like to keep it at the same level (unless there is evaporation). Thanks for your input.

What kind of overflow are you using? Usually what you're experiencing is caused by air trapped in the plumbing...

actually, i have noticed that my skimmer does it too. Sometimes, the foam won't even go near the top, but w/ the same setting, i see tons of water flowing out of the top. pretty frustrating.

Almost sounds like your pump is pumping faster than your over flow is flowing. Is it consistant or random?

yeah, i think the pump is a little over power as well.

It's pretty random when the water level goes up/down.

If you think your pump is a little overpowered:

Do you have a ballvalve on your return line? If you don't, get one and put it in. If you do, close it a little. Give it a few minutes and then see if your water-level has stabilized. If not, close it a little more. Rinse and repeat until you get the level, in the sump's return area, to stabilize.

i do have ball valves on both of my return lines. I will close it a little on both to see how they come out. Thanks for the suggestions.

no, leave the line from overflow to sump open, but close line from return to display tank just a little ;)
