I don't know if your set on a sump, but I'd be willing to see this for 100$ +shipping.
As far as I know the is a very common mix for nano tanks, I like it at least. People put a light on the aqua clear or just let extra light get in from the DT and use it as a fuge or for carbon, and the skimmer is very good. I was just about to start cleaning them, because I just stopped using the aqua-c and I just got the aqua clear, so I post clean pics first if you want them. Take a little time and think about it.

I recommend getting an overflow box for a 10 gal instead of drilling. It would save you much more hassel.

An over flow box has 2 chambers: one that goes in the inside to pull in water and bring in debris, oil on the surface and other stuff that can make impare your tanks quality.

Then we have the 2nd chamber that sits on the outside that usually will have a filter on the PVC/bulk head to filter out bigger debris and food. It carries the water down to the sump.

Inbetween the 2 is a pipe that siphens water from chamber one to chamber two and won't lose siphen when power goes out. I have simulated this before by turning my power strip off.

I thought mine would be a big pain in the rear end, but I love mine!
