I currently have a 90 gallon aquarium waiting to be set up so i can transfer my biocube inhabitants to it. I also have a 40 gallon aquarium that i want to make a sump out of. I believe its the cheapest way to do so also. I was thinking about using plexiglass for the inserts on the 40 gallon, but i dont know the proper design for one. Could someone please explain to me the main reasons for a sump and what each compartment does and should have in it. thanks alot guys/girls.

My 90 gallon aquarium is going to be a reef tank. Ive been searching at designs and such and have figured out lots about them. One thing im confused about though is whether or not i should incorporate a refugium into the sump.
