Hello all. I am converting from many years of freshwater to salt and want an easier setup. I have been researching the sump, and have a few ideas, but how big should it be? I have a 55 gal lying around, Big enough? Or to big? What do you think?

I have checked the search. Its probably there, but not in the titles. Thanks in advance!

55 is a good size for a sump if you just have it lying around, should be easy to set up. Some folks do bigger for that sized tank, but if you already have a 55 it'll save some $$.

A 55 gallon should be just fine. It'll give you plenty of room to work and for your other equipment.

The design of the sump can make all the difference. Are you gona build it yourself?

Yes. Still in the planning stages though. The 150 is still empty at this time. I was deciding back and forth between the Eheim 2217 + the Eheim wet/dry sump vs the 55 gal hand made sump.

Read some good reviews on the Eheim wet/dry sump, but don't know if its enough.
