Alright thought I was on the right page with that. Doctorgori- I put the 30gal. in through the top of the stand before I had the DT on top :D. Its gonna be a tight squeeze to set everything up/get the skimmer in, but if I position one part of it outside the back and the other side slightly outside the opposite side in the front, it should be doable.

Well.. hmm LFS talked me into the 7 sounded like a good idea at the time. Box is already gone but if I remember right it was 520gph at 4' head height. I guess the only thing that it will really restrict however is the flow through the filter sock. I haven't done much research into skimmers, dont really have a clue on what kinda gph of skimming I would want it to do. Guess I was thinking that It wouldn't filter more then the 520 gph for a 75gal. tank. Off to do skimmer research, anyone could tell me what I should shoot for in a skimmer for a 75gal. tank.

minimum you want to look for in a skimmer is equal to your tank gallons. most people will give the recommendation to go around 1-1/2 though. With your DT & sump I would consider 100-150gallon. I think marinedepot.com did have reef octopus models on sale. good brand & highly recommended (plus a sponsor).

Its more like less than 500gph according to the chart.

When you talk about head loss, you have to consider the elbows (two combined 45s are better than 90 degrees, btw), tees, any kind of valves, barb fittings etc. So in your case, its safe to say little over 400?

What is the benefit have having such a strong flow through your sump? You have it go through alot of filter media while its in it?

I was confused for awhile and thought I needed 10x through the sump and then foundout that is the total recommended flow in ur tank, and that 3-4x is recommended through the sump, and to makeup the rest with powerheads in the dt. So I think ur mag7 will be just fine for ur setup. I just installed a 7 on my 65 gallon with 20g sump.
