    Hey everybody,
First of its great to be part of a community like this! ;D

Second, I am planning to create a sump for my 20 gallon tank and I want to know if everything i'm planning is good to go. Any advice or listing anything wrong i'm doing would be greatly appreciated. I created a Diagram to show the plan. Also I'd like to know how powerful the pump should be for the water.

My tank consists of: 1 Tang, 2 Damsels, 1 Peppermint Shrimp, 1 Flaming Scallop, 6 Legged Hermit Crabs, 2 Turbo Snails.

I have around 20 pounds of Live rock, my sand is around half an inch.

I plan on putting the following in the sump which is currently in my tank:
HOB Protein skimmer, HOB Mechanical filter, and a heater.

I plan on adding a lot of coral to the tank and I want to keep the water conditions pristine for the coral, which is the reason for the sump.

First off that tank is far too small for a Tang. Your diagram looks ok but you might want to partition it off into three sections with the return in the middle. Have your overflow go into one end (skimmer & filter) with a T on the bottom going across to the fuge with algae at the other end. This ensures that microorganisms can grow, spawn and feed your DT and the filters will get the rest of the nitrates etc at the other end. Have both overflowing into the middle return pump section. HTH ;)

The return flow should be 10 times the sump's volume at 4 foot head.
