Hey all here is a pic of my sump.I would love to remove my socks from it, but that would be about a 7 inch drop for the water(im worried about the sound, salt creep and rough water in fuge).Does anyone have any ideas that would work on this setup I have to fix the issues listed above. Thanks in advance all!!

Man I was thinkin exactly the same thing today. Not too familiar with that particular bulkhead fitting but if you ditch that whole sock holder you could just make the pipe longer. Or if that bulkhead accepts the pipe after you remove the sock you could just add a short piece of pipe under the bulkhead.Who else hear runs sockless?lol

You should be able to find someway to extend the pipe down. I always had mine just come down to an inch or so below the water line. Couldn't even hear it. Never ran a sock.

May I ask why you want to remove the socks?

To be honest. I am just tired of cleaning them every two days mine are overflowing the top of the bulkhead(aka dirty sock). I have had it off for a full 24 hours and notice a little difference in tank cleanliness, and a few micro bubbles get thru the two baffles i have. This water is falling about 9 inches! Also i dont mind a little sound, and want to keep that gap on the incoming water to the sump( Its my belief that this helps oxygen level in the water. My thought was to put a piece of foam across the top of where the socks are that can be easily removed for cleaning or even some other kind of media. Any help i can get I will be very thankful of!!!

If you have that skimmer running I am sure that you are getting a good oxygen level in there. I just removed my sock and have the pipe running about 3 inches below the water and it still bubbles like crazy . I don't like the foam idea but thats just me.8)

My 200micron goes about 2 weeks before clogging. If yours is clogged after 2 days your water might be dirty, so I'd leave it in.
