So my girl woke me up at 4 this morning saying she can hear the tank sounding funny. I went out and heard the pump sucking air. Crap. The rug in front of the tank was soaked. At first I thought it was the ATO leaking somehow but I found it was indeed the sump. I have a 40g breeder as my on sump/fuge..3 compartments..the one on the right end is the intake and skimmer section and the front corner on the bottom is where I found water barely exiting over the black trim. How do I repair this? I spent the last 2 hours taking it out of the stand and putting in a back up sump. The silicone looks fine in that area. Don't know why it is leaking

Oh man - that sucks.. I love the random wakeup calls... I would take it out where there is a ton of light and fill it up.. See where EXACTLY it is leaking from - remove the silicone, scuff it up with sand paper a little bit and reapply. Let it sit for a while and do the refil test again. This makes me want to take my sump out and replace it lol. GOOD LUCk

Thanks man. That is what I was thinking. Yeah I would have never thought my sump would be the one to leak. The seals look perfect and Ive been using it for years. Makes me want to keep my one piece acrylic sump that I am using for a back up right now in there.

Sorry to hear about the leak. Why is it tanks only leak when we are sleeping and always discovered about 4 or 5 in the morning? I had a similiar "wake up call" not to long ago. Terrible way to wake up. Good luck

Yeah I don't get it. I guess better than during the day when I wasn't home. Good thing is neither of us could go back to sleep so she made some pancakes lol. Also luckily we have tile floor. But I did have an area rug that soaked up alot of saltwater. I took it outside for now. It is kind of a shag carpet. What can I do to clean it?
