So i am planning to do a custom sump/fuge with a 20gal long, but i measured my stand after pricing all the supplies and realized my $%^&*(*&^% stand is only 10" wide and there is no way it will ever fit. I think retrofitting a tupperware box will be totally lame, a headache, and wont work anyway due to structural integrity, so my last option is buy something, or try to build an acrylic custom myself. Other than my lack of work with acrylic, and the fact orca has a pretty nice setup, what do you guys suggest? Anyone out there build your own custom/ Am i really saving any money taking on the rick of my own handiwork?

I have both and see no reason you can't use a rubbermaid tub. This picture was when I first set the tank up. I wish it was still that clean and pretty!!

what is tank are you using down there? I only have 10 inches in my stand, and if im draiming the tank to put a new stand under it im gonna go with a 75 predrilled tank, i would rather just give orca $169.00 for their sump/fuge that dish out $600+ for the tank/stand AND have to build another sump lol

i ran into the same problem. lost alot of sleep thinking about it. decided to connect 2 10 gallon tanks. broke a few tanks cause the 10 gallons are two thin to really work with. i spent a couple hundred bucks, including the eshopps overflow, and return pump. ditched the whole thing and bough a RR 90 gallon.

i would recomend buying a sump. it may seem expensive but if your not confident in your abilty to learn how to work with aycrilic that could end up a big waste of money. that stuff is not cheap.

ok cool. Yeah I priced acrylic at the hardware store and it would cost me at least a hundred dollars just in acrylic to make a box. Orca looks like a really pro company and I think ill just get theirs! Still wish a 20g long would fit under my stand though ;-)

well after talking with Shan at orca and going through all the options, right now im going to go with two ten gallon tanks side by side. one will be for my fuge and the other ill set up for a skimmer/return pump. im just more than a little worries I can fit a sock, shimmer, baffles and a return in there. Captsock, you have an impressive setup and I was wondering if you could share what numbers are on that setup; flow rate, glass tank size, skimmer and measurements?

I had to change my return from 4 lines to 2 because with 4 there was NO pressure. Im looking in and getting great random chaotic current now though!

You can always go to a glass fabricator and send them your dimensions and silicone it yourself. I am in the process of building my new sump and this was my first time dealing with the silicone. It's easy to work with and cleaning with razorblades to pretty it up was almost idiotproof. Glass is cheaper than plastics also, just an idea :)
