is it a good idea to run your sump pump 24/7 or pump it on a timer to turn on every hour or so.

and what is a good going price for a rtn pump on a 20 tall main , the sump is going to be a 10gal

    1. Not sure I understand the question ? are you asking should a main pump be shut off sometimes to stop flow to the main tank from sump ? If thats it ? then No.. never cut that off

    2. You have a 20 Gal tank that you want to get a main pump for from the sump ? is it drilled or a HOB overflow ? a Mag 5 will do you well. Sorry if I mis understood the questions .

I'm with tangster on this one.
Not really understanding the question.

    IMO
im pretty sure if you were asking about the return pump from sump to main display it would cause complications and possible puddles on the ground.

if your talking about a power head, just for circulation i would still run it all the time. maybe using two small alternating circulation pumps. one on one off.

these are just my two cents. ;)

I hope this helps, maybe someone with some more sump exp can chime in.

Answer 1, is the answer to my question. I was asking should I put the sump pump on a timer so the water in the main tank can settle then recycle when it turns back on (and you answered it perfectly)

Answer 2, I will be getting an overflow, and the 20gal is my main tank and the 10gal is the sump. My question is what is a good pump for the sump (and you answered it perfectly)
