The larger, the better- to a point.
Will it fit in the stand?
Will it fit in the plumbed to the basement?

My 125 DT has a 50g sump, plumbed to the basement.

if the sump is rn down through the floor into the basement lol some people use a 60 galoon fuge for the 20 gallon tank.

I would say a 10 gallon would work great but some stands just dont have teh room under them. I was in the process of using a 5.5 gallon tank from walmart that fit well under teh stand and still gave me enough room for a sump based skimmer.

A sump is definitely not a necessity, especially for a tank that size. Most of the equipment housed in the sump is used to help reduce maintenance such as water changes on larger systems; for a 20g, even 10% weekly water changes would be easier than maintaining the filtration.

That said, if you still wish to employ a sump for the extra water volume, a fuge, etc, whatever fits your wallet will work.

Exactly what he said, but personally i'd emphasize as BIG as your wallet will allow, with the budget in the future for the extra RODI water/salt/supplement etc budget you will need for a bigger sump. More water/gallons means more money spent on a regular basis. But, IMO, a sump/fuge helps correct human error;) BTW a HOB fuge is a valid easy option.

So could I get away with a 5g sump or should I go with a 10g
