Hi I have a 72 gallon bow front with a 20 gallon long sump. I only have 6 inches on each side of the tank. I was wondering if I can put the return pump and protein skimmer in the middle and have a small refugium on the right side with just live rocks and cheatos??

Looks fine based on the photo. Hard to tell from the top down view for me though.

There is really no "one way" to do a sump. Whatever works for you, works for you. My sump is nothing pretty either but then it doesn't have to be... it's a sump. 8)

Just looking at the pics, I have heard that ABS pipes are bad for use in the aquarium? I have heard horror stories of fish dying off from chemicals leaching from ABS, are those ABS you are using? Maybe someone else will know more and chime in?

I'm sure I've read it somewhere, I'll do some digging around to see what I can come up with.

    ABS is fine. Mostly. :)

The normal ABS you find is waste or irrigation piping, and not rated for potable water. But it works. Just different cement and different fittings.
