The only way I can add a sump is if it is within my stand. The stand has doors on either side and drawers in the middle. I could put it on one side or the other, behind a drawer. My questions are: is it OK to be in a dark, enclose space? Since the length and width isn't that big, could I go with a tall tank rather than a wide one? And if it is taller, could I still use a skimmer in it? I'm also assuming I'll have to ventillate the area but that shouldn't be a big problem.
    Thanks!

Tall could work - you could prop the skimmer up on a block to compensate.
Ventilation will be critical to control heat and moisture. Does it have an open back?

if you can get it to fit through the door, then your fine! but if the tank won't slide in then you have a bit of problem, that's how come that I build a new stand, on my last one I had to put my sump inside the cabinet before I set up my tank...a real pia

the only purpose of a sump is to hold the equipment and keep it out of sight. so if what you have fits in it it will work.

The back isn't open but I was planning on opening it up for ventilation. The dimensions are 16" x 16/5" x 24" high.

Also, can I still have a refugium in addition to a sump?
