Hi, new to the hobby. If anyone could help I am soon to set up a 55 gallon with a orca sump/refug. It is a premade refugium. The design is skimmer-refug-return. I would supply picture but I am at work. My question after doing research on 3reef I now realize that the fuge may need slower flow than the design I have purchased. Would it benefit me to split the drain line from the DT to skimmer and refug (hence not dumping all the flow into the skimmer than flowing to refugium. Plus would it allow the refugium to get unfiltered water from the DT not skimming out all pods etc. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    sump size is 24x10x 15

If you put in a Y that splits flow between the skimmer and fuge, you will still be running all flow to the fuge. Chaeto actually grows very well in a high flow environment.

Can you post a picture of what you have?

Very nice looking set-up. I would just run all flow into the skimmer compartment. You want all the water to get skimmed. If you put some chaeto in the fuge it will do just fine. Slower flow through a fuge is more important IMO only if you are growing something like calurpa.

Sound good!! I appreciate your help. Just trying to do things right the first time around. Big investment. I should have the tank up and running in about 1-2 weeks. I will post pictures. Of course after I learn how to post pictures. Again thank you.

No problem. It's always good to see people asking questions before the water's in the tank.
