Enough pics? Haha. Simple is best. When I do water changes, I shut off my return and skimmer. Everything back flows and I pump in/out water right from/to the sump with an mj1200 and a 5' length of hose. Super fast and easy.

    oh another question

    1) I read that baffle spacing should be atleast 1" between baffles so like if I had a over, under, over section there would be a 1" space between the outer and inner 1 on both sides.

But how much space do you leave under a baffle that the flow goes under? Is that 1" also.

Yes. 1-1.5" is good. Doesn't need to be perfect.

thanks DustyE and Singlefin. Watched a real good video today of someone building his.. was an hour long but damn he made it look easy and was a very clean job.

Just getting prices from people on a 40L at this point and have plenty of time to design things out for Beta testing ha ha.

    probably looking at a 4 or 5 stage sump/fuge.

I have seen a few setups where the overflow lines fill a first section which then flows over into a filter sock section. Thinking they are doing it this way so that the flow into the socks is not a forceful and will allow the socks to do a better job(could be wrong). Still debating the filter socks and how I would make that section. If I was going to do it I want the filter socks to sit flush with the plate I create so water can easily flow into them. So basically this piece will need to be plexi and use a router to remove needed amount so they sit flush.

May just have someone make that part. Have to weight the time and bits I would need to make it.

Not going with the miracle mud/or sand at this point in planning but will have live rock and chaeto. Still planning on reactor area before the protein skimmer section.

Good thing is the mother in law has a lot of tools that I do not and she is talented. Woman can make anything.

Ah at least it will be a good project.

I used the brs 4" filter sock with the plastic ring. It slips right over my 1.5" PVC drain fitting. The oval lip inside the plastic ring holds it in place. Super easy to change. No need for a sick holder or extra equipment in the sump.

If you plan on running biopellets you will want that to return close to the skimmer pump input. Some people even mod there skimmer/skimmer pump to accept the return.;)

Yes that is exactly the main reason I was thinking a reactor area before the skimmer section.. Not positive I will run the biopellets but want to account for it and have space available if I do which I could dump the return direct into the skimmer section..
