    I was thinking of making a sump/refuge.
But space is a problem with my Stand. I have a 55 Gal. and stand.
The stand has a divider. Each side is about 20". So i was thinking of having a 10 Gal. sump on one side and figure out a small refuge. on the other side by cutting a 1" hole in the divider to flow the water to the refuge. maybe another 10 gal. with a baffle for the return.
Look i am new to this so no jokes if it's a dumb idea.
Any ideas would help me out try to go cheap with this project so i can get a nice skimmer and light. :-/

what i did was got an overflow box and T ed off the bottom of it 1 went to the fuge (with a ball valve) and the other went to the sump...
just have fuge gravity feed the sump...
so that 1" hole would be good

bubbles in the fudge is an issue..... lol i would baffle it yes. i would just hate having a masterpiece tank and then a ton of bubbles shoot out into the dt. that would ruin it for me. plus its better to do it right away than to decide you want them after setting it up.

this is the same problem I have. the stand for my 55 gal tank only has 10.5 inches clearance front to back. so all I could fit down there was a 10 gallon tank to use as a sump. I like your idea of using 2 10 gal tanks and using one as a fuge and return. I have plenty of room to put 2 10's side by side in my stand. but without drilling (its a glass 10 gal tank I have now) how would I get water from the first tank to the second?
