drilling one of the 10 gallons would be best. I don't know if it is possible though. I drilled a 20g and that worked fine. I would have the fuge sit higher than the sump and overflow into the sump via gravity. Use a couple ball valves and it will work like a charm

this is the same problem I have. the stand for my 55 gal tank only has 10.5 inches clearance front to back. so all I could fit down there was a 10 gallon tank to use as a sump. I like your idea of using 2 10 gal tanks and using one as a fuge and return. I have plenty of room to put 2 10's side by side in my stand. but without drilling (its a glass 10 gal tank I have now) how would I get water from the first tank to the second?

Well, I was thinking about raising the fuge and gravity feed it to the sump. my LFS will drill the glass for me. so to recap. 2, 10s one one each side. Have a "t" at the over flow. One to feed the sump and the other side to to feed the fuge. I will have a ball valve one the line to the fuge
so i can slow the flow of water. and the fuge will be elevated to feed the sump! Hmm, i think that sound good on paper. what does everyone think? Please give feed back. Good idea or bad?
